Left fielder Sam Jethroe had 4 hits and scored 3 times at Crosley Field where
the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York-AL Yankees by the score of 5 to 3.

New York-AL fell behind quickly as the Cincinnati offense came through in the
first inning when they tallied 3 runs on 4 hits.  The key offensive moment
was provided by Larry Doby who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he
lifted one out of the park for a two run home run.  Cincinnati out-hit New
York-AL for the game, 14 hits to 7.  

Jim Hearn(3-3) went 6 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Hearn got help
from Frank Smith who earned his 8th save.  Max Surkont(2-5) suffered the
loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.
