Bob Friend had an impressive outing as the Pittsburgh Pirates outscored the
Brooklyn Dodgers 1 to 0.

The game's only run was scored in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The early run
support proved sufficient for Friend(4-2) and Pittsburgh. That was all the
run support Friend required. Brooklyn threatened in the 9th but Pittsburgh
was able to put down the rally.

Dick Donovan was credited with his 2nd save. Bob Buhl(4-3) was given the
loss. He was stingy with the baserunners, allowing just 4 hits and 2 walks
in 8 innings.

Roy Purcell was in a sour mood after the game. 'Even you guys up in the press
box know why we lost this game. We made too many mistakes.'
