Chief Bender was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game as the Philadelphia Athletics outscored the St. Louis Browns 3
to 2.

Philadelphia came up with 2 runs in the 2nd inning. Lave Cross got things
going when he reached on an error. Two outs later Monte Cross stepped in and
he doubled driving in a run. Mike Powers then reached on an error scoring
the final run of the inning. St. Louis threatened in the 9th but their rally
came up short.

The winning pitcher was Bender(4-2) who allowed 2 runs for the game. Willie
Sudhoff(0-5) absorbed the loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow
an earned run in his 9 innings of work.
