Buck O'Brien closed the door on Detroit at Bennett Park as the Philadelphia-AL
Athletics beat the Detroit Tigers by the count of 9 to 8.
Detroit was unable to climb back into it after Philadelphia-AL went ahead for
good in the 7th inning when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits. This was a game of
many highs and lows for the home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 6
times in all.
The win was credited to Lefty Leifield(4-2) who went 6 and 1/3 innings
allowing 8 runs. O'Brien earned the save, his 3rd. The loss was charged to
Red Ames(1-5) in relief. He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an
earned run in his 2 innings of work.
