The New York Yankees got by the Cincinnati Reds at Yankee Stadium. The final
score was 8 to 6.

New York jumped out to the early lead in the first inning plating 3 runs on 4
base hits. Hank Thompson started the inning off right when he stroked a
single. Billy Goodman came to the plate and ripped a base-knock. Del Ennis
then doubled which scored a run. Ralph Kiner was up next and he hit a deep
fly scoring one more run. After another out, Chuck Diering stepped up to the
plate and he was walked intentionally. Stan Rojek extended the rally and
banged out a single, and an error was also committed, scoring the final run
of the inning. Cincinnati tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

The win was credited to Vern Bickford(5-0) who went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing
5 runs. Alex Kellner(2-1) was hit with the loss. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 16 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.

'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Bickford, 'I was
just giving us a chance to win.'
