Ewell Blackwell had a strong outing at Forbes Field as the Pittsburgh Pirates
beat the Boston-AL Red Sox by the count of 4 to 1.
Pittsburgh jumped on top of Boston-AL in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring
2 runs on 2 base hits. Hank Sauer initiated the scoring when he lofted a
solo-blast 'downtown'. After an out was recorded, Hoot Evers stepped up to
the plate and he reached on an error. After another out, Mickey Vernon then
doubled scoring the final run of the inning. That was all the runs
Blackwell(4-2) needed. Pittsburgh had just 5 hits for the afternoon.
Lou Brissie(2-4) was charged with the loss. He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings and
