One run was the difference at Yankee Stadium as the New York-AL Yankees
defeated the Cleveland Indians in 10 innings 9 to 8.

The score was tied at 8 after nine.  New York-AL was victorious in the 10th
inning.  Sid Gordon lined a single.  After an out was recorded, Ted
Kluszewski came to bat and was walked intentionally.  Richie Ashburn then
ripped a single giving New York-AL the win and sending the home town fans
into a frenzy.  New York-AL banged out 12 hits on the afternoon.  

Fred Sanford(1-2) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Jim
Hearn(0-2) was the losing pitcher in relief.  Right fielder Andy Pafko
rocketed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI but it wasn't enough for Cleveland.
