29,923 fans were treated to a fine game at Crosley Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Cincinnati Reds offense put up 4
runs on the scoreboard in the 7th inning and won by the slimmest of margins,
9 to 8.

Cincinnati had 4 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning when
they came up with 4 base hits. The big moment was provided by Ted Kluszewski
who made the Cincinnati fans a happy lot when he doubled plating all three
baserunners. New York-AL threatened in the 9th but their rally came up
short.

The victory was credited to Russ Meyer(2-0) who went 1 inning, allowing 2
runs. Frank Smith recorded his 9th save. Gerry Staley(1-5) was the losing
pitcher. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 12 hits and 2 walks
in 6 and 2/3 innings.
