Buck Ewing had 4 hits and 6 RBI at Polo Grounds where the New York Giants beat
the Indianapolis Hoosiers by the score of 25 to 20.
Ewing provided much of the offense. He singled which scored a run in the 1st
inning, ripped a base-knock plating two runs in the 4th inning, laced a
one-base hit which brought home a run in the 5th inning and tripled scoring
two baserunners in the 6th inning. New York bats were very productive in the
1st inning which saw them score 11 runs on 8 hits and the 4th inning with 4
runs. The New York offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.
The victory went to Bill George(1-1) who went the distance allowing 20 runs.
Larry Corcoran(0-2) was the losing pitcher. He had trouble throwing strikes
and issued 13 walks in 8 innings.
'They made a couple of mistakes and I took full advantage,' Ewing said 'next
time I'm sure they'll pitch me tougher.'
