Al Dark had 5 hits and 3 RBI as the New York Yankees clobbered the outmatched
Pittsburgh Pirates, 13 to 3.

New York took the lead for good in the top of the 2nd inning with 3 runs
utilizing 5 base hits.  Del Ennis led off and got things going when he
doubled.  After an out was recorded, Dark came to the plate and ripped a
base-hit resulting in a run.  Ed Fitz Gerald then ripped a base-knock.  After
another out, Eddie Lopat then threw a high and inside pitch that got by the
catcher; it was ruled a passed ball.  Vern Bickford stepped into the box and
laced a single driving home another two teammates.  New York provided plenty
of action in the 3rd inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 5 hits.  New York
had 21 hits for the game and Pittsburgh had 9.  

The winning pitcher was Bickford(2-1) who allowed 3 runs in 6 innings. Ken
Raffensberger earned his 1st save.  Lopat(0-6) was tagged with the loss.  He
gave up 8 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings of work.
