WEB GEMS- Top 7th: Bill Dahlen robbed Dick Harley of a base hit.

Walter Thornton was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Bill Lange had 6 hits and 2 RBI as the Chicago Orphans
outscored the St. Louis Browns in 13 innings 7 to 6.

The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings. Finally, Chicago pulled the
game out in the 13th inning. Tim Donahue ripped a base-knock. Two outs
later Lange stepped in and he stroked a base-hit making Chicago the victors
to the delight of the home town faithful. The score went back-and-forth with
the lead changing 5 times.

Thornton(4-1), allowing 6 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Willie
Sudhoff(0-4) was the losing pitcher. By surrending 7 runs in 12 and 2/3
innings his ERA jumped from 2.70 to 2.97.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Thornton, 'I got burned
on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
