Nap Rucker shut down the Chicago-NL batters on just 3 hits at Polo Grounds as
the New York-NL Giants won a thriller over the Chicago-NL Cubs in, 1 to
0.
The game was decided in the 9th inning. Rucker reached on an error. Danny
Moeller followed and he drew a walk. Miller Huggins then drew a walk to load
the bases. Ty Cobb was up next and he drew a walk giving New York-NL the win
and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Both teams totaled 3 hits on
the afternoon.
Rucker(3-3) was credited with the shutout. Willie Mitchell(5-3) was the losing
pitcher in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned
run in his 1 inning of work.
