Third baseman Hick Carpenter hit 3 doubles and had 2 RBI and Harry McCormick
had a complete game as the sizzling Cincinnati Red Stockings smashed the
overmatched ice-cold Pittsburgh Alleghenys, 19 to 4.

Cincinnati took the lead off Harry Arundel in the first inning with 2 runs on
3 hits. After an out was recorded, Harry Wheeler keyed the rally when he
ripped a one-base hit. Carpenter came to the plate and doubled, and an error
was also committed, which was good for two runs. Cincinnati bats were very
productive in the 9th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 6 hits. The
Cincinnati offense poured it on, scoring in 8 of the 9 innings.

The win was credited to McCormick(4-0) who went the whole way allowing 4 runs.
The loss was charged to Arundel(1-4). He gave up 17 runs in 8 and 1/3
innings of work.
