Mark Baldwin allowed Cap Anson to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as
the Chicago White Stockings defeated the Philadelphia Quakers by the score of
5 to 1 at Baseball Grounds.

Baldwin(3-1) pitched well for Chicago in their victory.  He was reached for 5
hits and 6 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 3.12 to 2.57.  Both
teams' bats went to sleep after the 2nd inning with no runs scored after that
point.  

Charlie Ferguson(4-4) was the loser.  He pitched 9 innings and surrendered 11
