Pittsburgh came through with the game-winning runs in the 8th inning plating 2 runs on 3 hits. After two were out Ginger Beaumont began the rally when he doubled. Fred Clarke came next and he laced a single, and an error was also committed, plating a run. Tommy Leach then doubled scoring the final run of the inning. Despite losing, Boston out-hit Pittsburgh 16 to 12. Doc Scanlan(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 1/3 innings and allowing no runs. Scanlan got help from Howie Camnitz who was credited with his 1st save. Togie Pittinger(2-6) was the losing pitcher. He got hit hard, allowing 12 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.
