Shortstop Joe Tinker had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates
defeated the Philadelphia-NL Phillies 6 to 5 at Baker Bowl.

Pittsburgh tallied 5 runs in the top of the 5th inning when they had 4 base
hits. The key at-bat was by Sam Crawford who silenced Baker Bowl as he
doubled which was good for two runs. Philadelphia-NL had a chance to come
back in the 9th but they came up short.

Luther Taylor(3-1) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 7 innings. Lefty
Leifield recorded the save, his 1st. Barney Pelty(3-4) was the losing
pitcher. Pittsburgh knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 5 runs in 4 and
2/3 innings.

When questioned about the loss, Mark McGonigle said, 'The fans got to see an
exciting game out there this afternoon. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it
done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the
smiles.'
