The Detroit Tigers put 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 7th inning and nipped
the New York-NL Giants 5 to 4 at Polo Grounds in a hard fought
contest.
Dolly Gray(3-3) was credited with the win in a less than impressive
performance. He gave up 3 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. New York-NL had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Gray got relief help from Charley Hall who gained credit for his 2nd save.
Vic Willis(2-2) absorbed the loss. Brian Capsello was in a contemplative
mood after the tough loss, 'It is really hard to lose this kind of a game.
It may seem weird to some, but it is easier to take the occasional blow-out
loss. It is the ones that just barely get away that hurt so much - like this
one!'
