Al Zarilla had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Boston Red Sox bested the
Cincinnati Reds 8 to 4 at Crosley Field.
Boston erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 8th inning plating
3 runs on 4 base hits. After two outs Wally Westlake jump-started the rally
as he delivered a one-base hit. Zarilla stepped up to the plate and he
tripled resulting in a run. Birdie Tebbetts then doubled plating one more
runner. Buddy Blattner was up next and he ripped a base-hit scoring the
final run of the inning. Boston finished with 14 hits while Cincinnati ended
up with 6.
The victory went to Tommy Byrne(2-2) who went 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing 1
run. Dick Fowler(3-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He got hammered,
allowing 6 hits and 3 walks in 2 innings.
