Lopata really lit it up for Philadelphia-NL. The Philadelphia-AL fans let him have it for what he did to their boys. He emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 1st inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 2nd inning. Philadelphia-NL bats were hot in the 1st inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 5 hits and the 4th inning with 4 runs. Philadelphia-AL had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. The victory went to Steve Ridzik(2-1) who went 1/3 of an inning, allowing no runs. Bob Kuzava(1-2) was given the loss in relief. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 5 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings. Roy Purchell was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only we could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'
