Left fielder Frank Thomas had 2 base hits at Wrigely Field where the
Chicago-NL Cubs beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 5 to 3.
Dixie Howell(1-1) came on to close the door tight in relief. He did not allow
a baserunner in his 2 innings lowering his ERA from 2.16 to 1.74. Howell was
helped out by Tom Gorman who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 1st
save.
The loss was charged to Ray Narleski(0-1) in relief. He allowed 5 runs and 3
