In an exciting finish the smoking-hot Boston Red Sox pulled out a win over the
Washington Nationals by a score of 7 to 6 at Fenway Park.

Boston scored the deciding run in the 9th inning.  Lou Boudreau drew a walk.
George Kell was next and he smacked a single.  Ted Williams then doubled
resulting in an exciting win for Boston and a wild post-game celebration by
the home town fans.  Washington was out-hit by Boston, 13 hits to 9.  

The winning pitcher was Tommy Byrne(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an
inning. Bob Chesnes(3-1) ended up with the loss in relief.  Boston continued
their winning ways, seemingly unable to lose during this stretch. 'I'm glad
to get the win', Byrne said.  'We've got some good momentum going now.'
