Catcher Charlie Bennett touched them all and had 3 RBI as the Detroit
Wolverines defeated the Boston Beaneaters in 11 innings by a score of 7 to 6
at Recreation Park.
Both teams had scored 6 runs after nine full innings. Detroit came out on top
in the 11th inning. Martin Powell ripped a base-knock. After an out was
recorded, Joe Farrell came to bat and ripped a one-base hit. Farrell took
second on the throw. Sadie Houck then laced a base-hit making Detroit the
victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. A wild affair, this
game saw the lead change 5 times.
The victory was credited to Dick Burns(1-5) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Jim Whitney(6-4) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 7 runs and
12 hits in 10 and 1/3 innings.
