defeated the Washington Nationals by the score of 5 to 2 at South Side
Park.

Frank Smith(8-3) earned his pay with a solid performance for Chicago. He
allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.  Washington made it exciting
in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.  

Ed Walsh earned his 1st save.  Beany Jacobson(1-7) ended up with the loss.
