Pittsburgh was unable to climb back into it after Cincinnati went ahead for good in the bottom of the 6th inning as they scored 5 runs on 4 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Jackie Robinson who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he stroked a base-hit scoring two baserunners. Cincinnati lit up the scoreboard in the 6th inning when they had 5 runs on 4 hits and the 8th inning with 9 runs on 10 hits. Cincinnati had 20 hits overall, while Pittsburgh had 8. Wilks earned the save, his 1st. Allie Reynolds(2-2) was hit with the loss. He was unable to control the Cincinnati offense and allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings. Cincinnati now has a record of 19-16. With this loss, Pittsburgh has a 3-7 record of late, 9-14 overall.
