WEB GEMS- Bot 9th: Phil Masi blocked the plate, saving a run!

Center fielder Larry Doby knocked 2 homeruns and had 7 RBI and Bill Wight
allowed Rob Hickok to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the
Cincinnati Reds ballclub embarrassed the Washington Nationals by the count of
14 to 3.

Doby really lit it up for Cincinnati. The Washington fans let him have it for
what he did to their boys. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 1st inning,
launched a three-run homer in the 2nd inning and tripled scoring two
baserunners in the 3rd inning. Cincinnati finished with 19 hits in the
victory.

Wight(2-1) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. The losing
pitcher was Bob Feller(4-3). He allowed 3 homeruns in 1 and 2/3 innings of
work.

Doby was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the ball
real well now. I made some adjustments last week and they are paying off.
That's what this game is about. making adjustments as the season goes along.'
