38,058 fans were treated to a fine game at Yankee Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The New York-AL Yankees won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

New York-AL did all of it's offensive work in the 2nd inning plating 3 runs on
3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Smoky Burgess got things going when
he lined a one-base hit. Vic Power next to the plate and he reached on an
error. Minnie Minoso then was hit by a pitch. Willie Miranda followed and
he doubled with all three runners coming home. That scoring would be all
that was needed. Cincinnati had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Ned Garver(5-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 7 innings. Garver got
help from Johnny Schmitz who earned his 1st save. Willard Nixon(0-4) took
the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.

'Some losses are harder to take than others' Rob Hickok lamented after the
game. 'This was one of them.'
