Second baseman Jimmy Williams had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Chicago-NL Cubs
outscored the Philadelphia-AL Athletics 6 to 5.

Chicago-NL took the lead off Cy Young in the first inning as they scored 2
runs on 3 base hits. Philadelphia-AL threatened in the 9th but Chicago-NL
was able to put down the rally.

Jimmy Dygert(7-3) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory.
Chick Fraser was credited with his 3rd save. The losing pitcher was
Young(3-8).

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Lee Palmer said after the game. 'Dygert did not have command of
his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
