Roy Mitchell was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and first baseman Fred Merkle had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the
Detroit Tigers beat the St. Louis-AL Browns by a score of 8 to 5.

Merkle provided the offensive punch.  He tripled in the 2nd inning, doubled
plating a run in the 6th inning, delivered a base-hit in the 7th inning and
doubled plating two runs in the 9th inning.  Detroit banged out 15 hits on
the afternoon.  

The victory went to Mitchell(2-2) who went the distance allowing 5 runs.
George McConnell(3-1) was the loser.  He saw his ERA jump from 1.31 to 2.51
as gave up 5 runs in 8 innings.
