Philadelphia-AL Athletics won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over Boston-AL Red Sox
at Shibe Park pulling it out in their last at bats, 3 to 1.

Philadelphia-AL came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning plating 2
runs.  After an out was recorded, Gene Woodling kicked off the action when he
drew a walk.  Bobby Avila stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a
sacrifice bunt.  Gil Hodges then smashed a two-run homer giving
Philadelphia-AL the victory and sending the 3,189 home-town fans home happy.
The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.  

Bob Kuzava(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 3 innings. Lou
Brissie(0-1) took the loss in relief.  He allowed 1 run and no hits in 1/3 of
an inning.
