Marv Grissom(3-1) was the winner as Cleveland Indians shutout the
Philadelphia-AL Athletics by a 2 to 0 score at Connie Mack
Stadium.
Cleveland scored the winning runs in the 9th inning plating 2 runs utilizing 3
base hits. Willie Jones kicked off the action when he doubled. Earl
Torgeson stepped up to the plate and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Del
Ennis then delivered a one-base hit resulting in a run. Tom Poholsky then
threw a pitch that got away from the catcher. Al Kaline came to the plate
and stroked a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Cleveland
finished with just 5 hits in the victory.
Mike Garcia(3-5) was hit with the loss. He allowed just 1 run and 3 hits in 8
innings.
