WEB GEMS- Top 3rd: Al Dark robbed Johnny Temple of a base hit.
Top 7th: Willie Mays robbed Roy Sievers of an extra base hit.

Roy Sievers homered and had 3 RBI at Forbes Field where the Washington
Nationals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 8 to 6.

Washington came up with 6 runs in the 3rd inning with the help of 6 hits. The
highlight belonged to Sievers who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd
when he smacked a three-run homer. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring
in 5 different innings was still not enough for Pittsburgh to come away with
the victory.

Art Houtteman(2-2) allowed 5 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Don
Newcombe earned his 2nd save. The losing pitcher was Billy Pierce(3-4). He
allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 8 hits and 3 walks in 2 and 1/3
innings.

The Washington ballclub's record now stands at 15-26. With the loss,
Pittsburgh has a record of 6-4 lately, 26-19 overall.
