First baseman Eddie Waitkus had 2 base hits at Fenway Park where the Boston-AL
Red Sox beat the Philadelphia-NL Phillies in 11 innings by the score of 4 to
3.

The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings.  Boston-AL won the hard fought
contest in the 11th inning.  After an out was recorded, Jim Busby doubled.
One out later, Joe Tipton came to the plate and delivered a one-base hit
making Boston-AL the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration.
Both teams ended up with 11 hits on the night.  

The victory was credited to Hoyt Wilhelm(4-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Harvey Haddix(1-1) was hit with the loss in relief.
