In a tight game it was the New York-NL Giants 7, the Cincinnati Reds 5 at
Redland Field.
New York-NL erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs
on 3 hits. After two outs Fred Luderus started the attack as he stroked a
one-base hit. Steve O'Neill came to the plate and ripped a base-hit. Alex
McCarthy then slapped a single, and an error was also committed, driving in
two more baserunners. Nap Rucker was great in relief and recorded his 1st
save.
The victory was credited to Jim Baskette(1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing 1
run. Barney Pelty(3-2) was the loser in relief. He pitched 2 innings giving
up 3 hits and no walks.
