WEB GEMS- Top 2nd: Johnny Pesky robbed Chico Carrasquel of a base hit.

In a good matchup it was the Cincinnati Reds 4, the Boston-AL Red Sox 1 at
Crosley Field.

Boston-AL fell behind quickly as the Cincinnati offense came through in the
first inning plating 3 runs. After an out was recorded, Johnny Pesky got
things rolling when he drew a walk. Bob Elliott stepped up to the plate and
he drew a walk. Larry Doby then doubled which scored a run. Gil McDougald
came up and he drew a walk to load the bases. Dick Sisler came to the plate
and drew a walk scoring one more run. Wes Westrum added to the uprising and
drew a walk scoring the final run of the inning. The early run support
proved sufficient for Ned Garver(3-1) and Cincinnati. That was all the run
support Garver required. Both teams finished the game with 7 hits.

Frank Smith recorded the save, his 3rd. Bob Hooper(1-1) was given the loss.
He had trouble throwing strikes and issued 9 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
