Bunk Congalton had 4 hits and scored 4 times as the red-hot Philadelphia-AL
Athletics defeated the New York-NL Giants in 10 innings by a score of 7 to 6
at Columbia Park.
The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings. Philadelphia-AL won it
in the 10th inning. Danny Murphy led off and keyed the rally when he banged
out a single. Congalton stepped up to the plate and he lined a one-base hit.
Boss Schmidt then hit a sacrifice fly which brought home a run. Solly
Hofman followed and he ripped a base-knock. Al Bridwell came to the plate
and ripped a base-hit giving Philadelphia-AL the win as 6,980 happy fans
joyfully celebrated. New York-NL was out-hit by Philadelphia-AL, 16 hits to
12.
The winning pitcher was Johnny Lush(2-0) who allowed 4 runs in 3 innings. Irv
Young(0-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 4 hits and no walks
in 1 and 1/3 innings.
In another of a string of victories, Philadelphia-AL extended their winning
streak to 8 games. Brian Capsello was upset but philosophical about the loss.
