The New York Giants nipped the Philadelphia Phillies 8 to 7 at Polo Grounds in
a hard fought contest.
Joe McGinnity(5-3) pitched a solid game. He surrendered 8 hits and 4 walks in
7 and 2/3 innings. Philadelphia had a chance to come back in the 9th but
they came up short.
McGinnity got help from Red Ames who earned his 1st save. Togie
Pittinger(2-4) was given the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 13 hits and 5
walks in 8 innings.
Despite losing Billy Murray was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over
this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one
of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'
