In a two run game the Boston Red Sox put 8 runs on the scoreboard in the 5th
inning and got by the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 11 to 9.

Boston tallied 8 runs in the 5th inning with the help of 3 hits.  The critical
plate appearance was by George Kell who helped quiet the crowd when he lashed
a single plating two runs.  Pittsburgh out-hit Boston 12 to 8, but Boston
ended up with more runs.  

Andy Hansen(1-1) allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Hansen got relief help from Jack Banta who gained credit for his 5th
save.  Early Wynn(0-1) took the loss in relief.  He allowed 2 runs and 4 hits
in 3 and 2/3 innings.
