WEB GEMS- Bot 8th: Carl Furillo robbed Vic Wertz of a Homerun!

Walker Cooper knocked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Chicago-NL Cubs bested
the Philadelphia-NL Phillies 7 to 3 at Shibe Park.

Cooper was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 3rd
inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 8th inning. Chicago-NL finished
with 7 hits in the victory.

The victory was credited to Hal Newhouser(1-2) who went 8 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 3 runs. Newhouser got relief help from Clem Labine who gained credit
for his 2nd save. Dizzy Trout(5-1) was the losing pitcher. He served up 4
homeruns in his 3 and 1/3 innings.
