Candy Cummings allowed Nat Hicks to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and second baseman Bill Craver had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the Philadelphia W
Whites defeated the Boston Red Stockings by the score of 10 to 8 at South End
Grounds.

The game started off with Philadelphia W taking the lead in the first plating
an isolated run on 2 base hits. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in
5 different innings was still not enough for Boston to come away with the
victory.

The win was credited to Cummings(6-3) who went the whole way allowing 8 runs.
Al Spalding(11-7) was the loser. He was not very effective, surrendering 10
runs in 9 innings.
