Gus Krock whitewashed Washington on 3 hits and Fred Pfeffer had 6 hits and 3
RBI at Swampoodle Grounds as the Chicago White Stockings belted the
Washington Nationals by the count of 23 to 0.

Pfeffer enjoyed a big day at the plate.  He doubled scoring two baserunners in
the 1st inning, singled in the 3rd inning, laced a base-knock in the 4th
inning, doubled in the 5th inning, doubled which plated a run in the 8th
inning and laced a single in the 9th inning.  Chicago bats were very
productive in the 3rd inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 6 hits and the
4th inning which saw them score 5 runs on 4 hits.  The Chicago offense poured
it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.  

Krock(5-3) was credited with the shutout, his first of the year. Ed Daily(2-3)
was the loser.  He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 27 hits and 5
walks in 9 innings.  

'I felt great out there today,' Pfeffer said, 'Maybe I should make a regular
habit of getting to bed on time!'
