The Pittsburg Pirates plated 5 runs in the 7th inning and won by the slimmest of margins, 10 to 9. Pittsburg scored the decisive runs in a big 8th inning scoring 3 runs on 4 hits. After two outs Jake Stenzel started the attack as he smacked a single. Stenzel got a great jump and stole second easily. Bill Merritt then singled knocking in a run. Jake Beckley stepped in and he was hit by a pitch. Lou Bierbauer stepped into the box and delivered a single to load the bases. Joe Sugden extended the rally and slapped a one-base hit driving home another two teammates. Washington made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. The victory went to Pink Hawley(5-6) who went 8 and 2/3 innings, allowing 9 runs. Hawley got relief help from Charlie Hastings who gained credit for his 1st save. Win Mercer(4-6) was the loser. He got hit hard, allowing 15 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
