Walter Johnson racked up an impressive total of 12 strikeouts as the Boston-AL
Red Sox topped the Philadelphia-AL Athletics in 10 innings by a score of 2 to
0 at Shibe Park.

Neither pitching staff had allowed a run after the regulation nine innings.
Boston-AL won the hard fought contest in the 10th inning. After two were out
Roy Hartzell started the rally when he drew a walk. Jim Delahanty came to
the plate and lined a one-base hit. Delahanty took second on the throw. Doc
Crandall then was walked intentionally to load the bases. Johnson stepped in
and he banged out a single scoring two teammates. Boston-AL managed only 4
hits on the afternoon.

It was the 3rd shutout of the year for Johnson(7-1). The losing pitcher was
Jeff Tesreau(5-2). He gave up only 4 hits and 3 walks in 10 innings.

'Johnson was the man today,' Roy Purcell said. 'He had just about every pitch
working.'
