In a thriling finish the Philadelphia Phillies pulled off the win over the
slumping Cincinnati Reds by a score of 3 to 2 at Shibe Park.
The game was won by Philadelphia with a run in the 9th inning. Gus Zernial
banged out a single. Andy Seminick followed and he reached on an error.
Cliff Mapes then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Nippy Jones stepped in and he
was walked intentionally to load the bases. Jack Lohrke came up to bat and
drew a walk giving Philadelphia the win as 21,345 happy fans joyfully
celebrated. Philadelphia had a total of 7 hits for the game.
Virgil Trucks(5-2) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the win. Johnny
Schmitz(1-6) was given the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 7 hits in 8 and 1/3
innings.
