New York-AL brought 10 runs across the plate in the 7th inning when they came up with 6 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Richie Ashburn who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he tripled with all three runners coming home. Pittsburgh had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Mel Parnell(3-1) got the win allowing 4 runs in 6 innings. Bob Kuzava recorded the save, his 3rd. The loss was charged to Billy Pierce(1-4). Andy Spector was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've been through this many times - it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine - as for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'
