33,043 fans were treated to a fine game at Forbes Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Cincinnati Reds won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Cincinnati drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
scoring a single run using 3 hits.  After an out was recorded, Sam Jethroe
lashed a single.  One out later, Ralph Kiner came to bat and singled.  Ted
Kluszewski then laced a base-hit scoring the run.  Kluszewski took second on
the throw.  Pittsburgh made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to
push the needed runs across.  

The victory went to Russ Meyer(6-1) who went 8 innings, allowing 2 runs. Stu
Miller gained credit for his 7th save.  Vinegar Bend Mizell(0-3) took the
loss.  He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 6 hits and 6 walks.
