At Forbes Field the New York-AL Yankees outscored the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to
1.

New York-AL erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning with 3 runs
on 2 hits.  After an out was recorded, Herm Wehmeier was the sparkplug when
he reached on an error.  Richie Ashburn came to the plate and drew a walk.
Billy Goodman then singled scoring a single run.  Goodman took second on the
throw.  Hank Thompson struck out, unable to help the rally.  Smoky Burgess
came up to bat and lined a single, and an error was also committed, with two
more runners crossing home.  The game was a scoreless duel until the 8th
inning.  

Wehmeier(4-0) was the winner allowing 1 run in 8 innings. Jack Meyer recorded
his 6th save.  Bob Turley(2-2) was hit with the loss.  He was a hard-luck
loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 8 innings of work.  

New York-AL now has a record of 17-16.  Pittsburgh has a record of 16-9 after
the loss.
