Jim Devlin had a complete game and right fielder Orator Shafer had 5 hits and
9 RBI as the Louisville Grays clobbered the outmatched Chicago White
Stockings, 34 to 6.
Shafer was a one-man wrecking crew. He tripled emptying the bases in the 1st
inning, smacked a single scoring two baserunners in the 1st inning, slapped a
one-base hit knocking in a run in the 4th inning, cracked a two-run shot in
the 5th inning and stroked a base-hit plating a run in the 5th inning.
Louisville lit up the scoreboard in the 1st inning which saw them plate 10
runs on 7 hits and the 5th inning with 13 runs on 11 hits. Louisville had 33
hits for the afternoon.
The win went to Devlin(8-2) who allowed 6 runs in the game. Dave Rowe(0-1) was
the losing pitcher. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an
earned run in his 1 inning of work.
