Frank Laporte hit 2 doubles as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics beat the
Washington Nationals by a score of 6 to 1.

Philadelphia-AL started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their
half of the first plating 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits.  Solly Hofman led off
and started the attack as he doubled.  Two outs later Hooks Wiltse stepped in
and he threw a high and inside pitch that got by the catcher; it was ruled a
passed ball bringing in a run.  Danny Murphy then banged out a single.
Laporte followed next and he doubled scoring the final run of the inning.
That was all the runs Joe Lake(5-2) needed.  Philadelphia-AL ended up with 10
hits for the game while Washington had 6.  

Doc White preserved the game for Lake, recording his his 5th save.  The losing
pitcher was Wiltse(4-6).  He surrendered 4 runs and 8 hits in 7 innings.
