Bob Caruthers(9-3) thrilled the fans at Washington Park as he crafted a no-hit
masterpiece against the Cincinnati Red Stockings. The Brooklyn Bridegrooms
won by a final score of 2 to 1.

The game was decided in the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Dave Foutz
ripped a base-hit. Foutz took second on a stolen base. After another out,
Darby O'Brien was walked intentionally. Paul Radford was up next and he
laced a single, and an error was also committed, making Brooklyn the winners
and sending the 6,782 fans home happy. Brooklyn managed only 6 hits on the
afternoon.

Mike Smith(7-2) was the losing pitcher. When asked how his stuff was out
there, Caruthers looked a bit incredulous (as did this reporter) and replied
'A bit better than average, I'd have to say'
