New York had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 3 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Hatfield led off and keyed the rally when he reached on an error. William Brown stepped up to the plate and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run. George Gore then drew a walk. Gore swiped second base. After another out, Roger Connor was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Jim O'Rourke added to the rally and was walked intentionally. Danny Richardson stepped up next and he lined a one-base hit giving New York the victory as 4,067 happy fans celebrated wildly. The New York offense man-handled the Boston pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9 innings. Ewing(4-3) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 12 runs. Matt Kilroy(4-2) was the loser. He was unable to control the New York offense and allowed 12 hits and 8 walks in 8 innings. 'We just wouldn't give up,' Hatfield said.
