Gil Hatfield had 2 base hits and John Ewing pitched a complete game as the New
York Giants staged a dramatic comeback over the Boston Reds by a score of 13
to 12 at Brotherhood Park.

New York had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 3 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. Hatfield led off and keyed the rally when he reached
on an error. William Brown stepped up to the plate and he cleared the fences
for a two-run home run. George Gore then drew a walk. Gore swiped second
base. After another out, Roger Connor was a strikeout victim, unable to help
out. Jim O'Rourke added to the rally and was walked intentionally. Danny
Richardson stepped up next and he lined a one-base hit giving New York the
victory as 4,067 happy fans celebrated wildly. The New York offense
man-handled the Boston pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9 innings.

Ewing(4-3) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 12 runs. Matt
Kilroy(4-2) was the loser. He was unable to control the New York offense and
allowed 12 hits and 8 walks in 8 innings.

'We just wouldn't give up,' Hatfield said. 'Much of the credit goes to our
fans - they were with us the whole way.'
